Elizabeth Bettan Andeborg and me.
As a small kid in early 50s , living alone with my mother, life was awesome. It was kids, born after the war, everywhere playing outside all years around. No TV or nothing that kept us indoors.
Nature was our playgrounds, in the woods as indians and cowboys, football on an empty plot, cycling on the streets, hiding in the grind feild, shooting arrows and air rifles, playing next to our small river or swimming at our local community pools.
As you get a bit older, money became more important. My mother just got things going around after rent, food and daily costs. I needed to get a job and buy my own gadgets.
I started to work in the neighbor hood villas gardens, cutting grass and clean out leaves. Picking apples, cleaning ponds and painting fences. Digging snow in winter. Small jobs.
First regular job was as a food delivery guy at a local food market. On a huge bicycle with big boxes in front. After school and weekends. 11-12 years old. Second was in Tempo department store.
One of my sisters Siv Andeborg was from moms earlier marriage and much older than me. I became an uncle at 6. My sisters husband was Uffe Andeborg and he became my idol from first time we met.
He was cool, and learned me how to make a Presley hairstyle, with help of Brylcream.
Uffe was working in the modern Radio&TV business at the time.
He gave us a new TV and a Radio furniture with a vinyl record change unit. Man I was happy! playing Elvis singles and EPs all day long.
He also had a lot of extra jobs to feed the family. So he just pick me up a couple of times per week.
One day we made small Car wash "pillows" in a big analogue machine. It was a huge wheel with hundreds of meter 1' transparent plastic tube.
First it was printed with text and logo, DOIT was the name. Then filled with champo. My end was the heating press that made a space and lock between the pillows like a line of sausages.
Another day we cleaned Taxi cars. Fun for me, I picked one out in the big garage and drow it to one of our two spaces for cleaning.
I took all rubber mats out and vacuum cleaned inside and the trunk. Ashtrays was allways full. Then sprayed a thin layer of chemical stuff on the outside for salt, asphalt and dirt.
Next we switched spaces, Uffe did all cleaning. I rubbed the car dry with yellow skins and drow it back to its place. These events was more often and gave me a lot of cash saving for a motorcycle.
We did a few more jobs before I went to art school, the last was Esso Birger jarlsgatan.
Uffe and my sister Siv moved from the city to Lidingö, he had his own new gas station, and my sister Siv joined the Lidingö tax office.
Thanks Uffe and Sivan!
RIP.
