After one years rest in the swedish army, with a new driving licence, I joined a company as a delivery guy. But it shows up to be a lot more. They delivered everything in floors to new constructions and repair works. B2B.
As always it was a boss in an office.
The rest of the middle level was filled with all kind of floors.
Huge standing rolls from 400 kg and down, classic cork, vinyl and plastic. 2 m high. Parquet floor in different style and sizes.
Computer floor in metal with feet's for computer halls.
The bottom level had hundreds of 4 meters rolls with carpets.
Hundred of 25 kg adhesive products in cans.
So It was more like a gym.
Four guys was driving the two flat nosed trucks with large flat loading space. One bodybuilder in the 60:s and a young finnish bear size guy in the first. An old guy with awesome technic skills and a younger one quite big guy in the other.
I was a tiny little boy ready to take the Ford Transit Van.
First months was a hell. I delivered smaller ready cut vinyl floors and carpets to new built townhouses around Stockholm.
Car was loaded full when I left in the mornings, each house should have floors delivered in the correct room with 3-4 cans adhesives, and 50-100 sacks with sand a 5 kg to keep the floors in place.
After one delivery I almost crawl into the car, but after a ride to the next, you where fit agan. That was my days. But it was fun.
As time goes by I grov a bunch of kilos in muscles mass, especially the legs. Many deliveries was in the city, five floors without elevator, they only manage 300 kg. An cork roll 300kg on a trolly, one step at the time. After 7-8 month of daily punishment I was upgraded to truck no 2 as the old guy took inhouse work instead.
One urgent job was to get computer floors to Volvo in Gothenburg. I took it and probably made some record. They where late loading and Volvo closed the gates 18:00. Ive got away around 12 and put the pedal in the floor. Was at the gate 18:05 and they let me in.
Slept in a work container kitchen. An immigrant cleaner woke me up with her brush.
Way back was slow, car was way overloaded as the job was finished and their cutting board and tools had to go back.
It was a great time, one of the best jobs I had.
One job I never forget do was Långholmens prison.
We had a under floor called Dufloor, masonit 120*60*10 cm in a box. 60 kg each. Around 50 boxes. We parked maybe 30m from the entrance door. Took a box on the back and went to the door.
A guy locked it up, let us trou, locked the door, passed us to the next door and did the same. Then it was steps to the 3 floor, then fifty meter to the last cell in that korridor before I could drop the box. Same keygame with the guy every box. In and out.
And the boxer Bosse Högberg with inmates was laughing at us from above.
Guess how it felt in the fingers 25 rounds later..
Finally I was upgraded to their shop in Solna to sell and cut carpets. Not fun so I left with lots of new skills about put in floors.
